I have to admit I am a bit of a thrill seeker. I love to take risks and at heart find gambling a bit of a thrill. There is something about a game of chance that really appeals to me. Its probably right up there with my love of good food and wine.
So you can imagine how excited I was to hear about the collaboration between PokerStars and Jones & Sons to celebrate the new season of the UK and Ireland Poker Tour. Uniting poker with gourmet food, the “All-In Kitchen” was created, the world’s first pay-by-poker restaurant. It sounds like something out of a fantasy but it’s exactly as it sounds — you play poker to determine how much you pay for your meal.
Whether you’re a poker rookie or a professional player, the rules are the same. Before you sit down to eat, you play three hands of poker. The price you pay for your meal is based on how many chips you have at the end of those three hands. Worst case scenario, if you bomb and lose everything in the first round, you pay only £10 for a great three course meal, normally worth about £50 a head, with a cocktail to wash it down. Best case scenario, you pay absolutely nothing, with your meal and cocktail being paid for by PokerStars.
This event is all about fun. The Poker is optional and no money is ever won or lost. You have the choice of turning up and simply enjoying the atmosphere, playing no poker and paying full price for your meal, or alternatively you can play a few hands and win your meal for less or if you strike it lucky, paying nothing at all!!!
One look at the menu, curated by Jones & Sons, and you get an immediately idea why, when it comes to the All-In Kitchen, you can’t really lose. The gourmet offerings feature a ‘Royal Flush of King Crab Thermidor’, ‘Queen Scallops accompanied by Salt Baked Swede and Bacon Marmalade, ‘4 Of A Kind of Lamb Chops, Rump, Kidney and Shoulder With A Rosemary Jus’ and even a ‘2 Pair of Pear Tarte Tatin, Pear Caramel and Ice Cream’.
Simply delicious !!!
The All-In Kitchen has already packed up its London operation but there are now plans to roll out the experience nationwide across all the UKIPT stops this season. If you fancy winning a gourmet meal with a hand of poker, then watch out for it coming to a venue near you.
