Don’t you just hate it when you pay over the odds for a product that under performs. How often do you find yourself pushing a product to the back of a drawer because it irritates your skin. Or doesn’t look quite as good on your skin as the scary lady on the makeup counter said it would. How often are you simply underwhelmed by the way a product looks or smells or performs?

If you are anything like me then it is way more often than you can afford.

What I want from my beauty products is quite simple. I want them to be effective, I want them to smell great, I want them to not irritate my skin and I want them to be affordable. Simple? It really should be!

In my experience though, all too often beauty products simply fail to deliver.

So I was intrigued to hear about a company who create fresh beauty products to order.

You can tell The Beauty Kitchen what product you need, and how you want it to look and smell and they will make it for you. More than that they will even personalise it for you!

So when Beauty Kitchen asked me if I wanted to try some of their products I was thrilled. When the parcel arrived I knew right away what it was by the amazing smells coming from the packaging. I quickly unwrapped it and look at all the lovely goodies I found.

So did they live up to the hype?

The products I received were from the Inspire Me range. This range uses an blend of essential oils containing uplifting ingredients such as spearmint, peppermint, red mandarin, lemongrass, oranges, basil and fennel. As you can imagine the products smell amazing, really energising and perfect for those times (mornings?) when you need a little something to get you going.

First up was the body scrub. This felt really luxurious. It contains pink rock salt from the Himalayas. This is the purest salt on the planet, known for its high grade mineral content. The salt is added to a base oil with epsom salts. Also added is honey from wild flowers. Honey is known as nature’s golden healer due to its soothing and healing properties.

Together these ingredients combine to really deep cleanse and exfoliate the whole body.

Next up was Shimmer Dry Oil Moisturiser. This uses the same blend of essential oils but this time they are held within a dry oil formulation which absorbs quickly and easily into the skin leaving it beautifully scented and well conditioned. It also contains a slight shimmer, to make the skin appear healthy and emphasising any colour you might have.

Finally out of the parcel were these two cutesy scent bombs which were again from the same range and like the other products smelt fresh and rejuvenating.

I wasted no time whisking the products into the bathroom to test them out. I have super dehydrated skin so I massaged the scrub into it dry paying special attention to my heels and elbows. I then stepped into the shower and kept rubbing in large circles over my body as the water washed away the product. When I had finished showering, I patted my skin dry then sprayed on the body oil everywhere I wanted deep moisturisation. And it really, really worked! It sank in within less than a minute leaving my skin feeling and looking really soft and hydrated. There was no trace of shimmer but my skin did have a really healthy glow. I was super impressed. The first time I used the products, there was an immediate brightening of the skin and hydration that lasts for hours. Over the next few weeks I used the scrub at least once a week and the body oil two or three times weekly, and there has been a noticeable result. My skin looks healthier, there has been an improvement in its overall condition, it has a healthy glow, even the skin on my shins where I sometimes suffer from scaly, flakey patches. My knees and elbows have improved and I had fake tan applied recently without any orange bits – result!!

I haven’t used the mini bath bombs yet, I only have baths when I really have time to relax but if the quality is half as good as the scrub or body oil then I am in for a treat when I do.

The Beauty Kitchen have premises in Glasgow so if you are local you should pop in. The people there are the loveliest ever and very knowledgeable. Best of all, The Beauty Kitchen hold sessions when you can try your hand at making your own products to your very own specification. I would LOVE to try this.

If you don’t live near enough though, don’t worry. Just tell the staff which products you want and how you what them to look and smell, and The Beauty Kitchen will do it all for you.

Beauty Kitchen products are effective, natural, ethical, local and very affordable with prices from £7.95.

I was not paid to write this post. I was sent products to try and having used them and read about the company, I wanted to share it with you. If you want to read about The Beauty Kitchen, book a class or buy a product, you will find their website here.
