Outfit of the Day; the Work Edit by David Emanuel at Bonmarche

As lots of my regular readers know I am lucky enough to work as a Solicitor. It really is my dream job, with every day different to the last and a real sense of making a difference to people's lives. There are a few negatives attached to the role though, most notably the long hours and the unofficial uniform of boring grey suits.
Whilst I totally recognise the importance of dressing appropriately, I am always on the lookout for ways to inject personality into my workwear and one of my favourite ways to do that is to swap the traditional skirt suit for a dress and jacket.
I was recently sent this dress from David Emanuel at Bonmarche. We all know of David Emanuel, the Welsh fashion designer who for decades has dressed the world's most glamorous women; Dame Shirley Bassey; Shakira Caine; Joan Collins; Faye Dunaway; Lesley Garrett; Catherine Zeta-Jones; Patsy Kensit; Madonna; Jane Seymour; Elizabeth Taylor Ivana Trump, Sophie Ward and of course,  Princess Diana. Whilst I may never be lucky enough to own a piece of David Emanuel Couture, we can all benefit from his knowledge of how best to flatter a woman's body through his pret-a-porter collection designed exclusively for Bonmarche.
Although the colours in this dress are court appropriate, the materials used make it much more interesting. The body of the dress is black jersey which is so flattering and it has a silvery grey, herringbone tweed panel at the front which is bordered with black lace. Really pretty, don't you think? Being lighter, this panel draws the eye to the centre of the body causing an optical illusion which makes you look taller and slimmer. I love clothes that do that, don't you?

For court days, I would team the dress with a black blazer like this one from Whistles, but the high neck and on the knee hemline, mean that the dress is perfectly suitable on its own for office days. Just add a strong lip, a great bag and a pair of shoe boots like these ones from George at Asda and you have a stylish look that is suitable for the most corporate environment. What do you think?

As well as looking fantastic, this dress is utterly practical too. It pulls on, no zips or buttons to negotiate while I am still half asleep, the material is thick enough to smooth out any lumps and bumps and best of all, it is machine washable. Costing just £32 here from the David Emanuel Collection, this dress ticks all the boxes for me and I know I will get a huge amount of wear out of it.

The David Emanuel range is about more than just workwear though, it also has a wide range of casual wear, occasion wear and party wear. I currently have my eye on the most fabulous red lace and sequin shift that would be perfect for Christmas dinners and parties. I haven't given in to it just yet but suspect you will see a review of that little beauty here on julie-ellen before very long.

So what do you think of this dress? Do you love it as much as I do? And what about you? Have you ever bought anything from the David Emanuel range at Bonmarche? If not, you really must check it out here.
