Hourglass Ambient Light Powder Palette

I always wanted to try one of the Ambient Light powders from Hourglass. They sounded amazing, the big bloggers loved them but frankly I could never decide which I wanted most.
I spent literally hours reading the reviews and everyone seemed to love them. They raved about them actually, claiming that they made the skin look younger and blurred imperfections. Although a few of the shades made their way into my online basket over time, - at £38 for a powder, no matter how miraculous, I never quite managed to press the checkout button.
Until I saw the palette.
Two of my favourite powders AND a limited edition version - and all for just £56.
Okay I totally accept £56 is still a ridiculous price for powder but somehow I managed to convince myself that this was the bargain of the century. I hit checkout without a moment’s hesitation.
And then I worried.
Cold reality hit and I thought about all of the dupes there were that would have cost me a tenth of the price.
And then the palette arrived.
And the worrying stopped.
First up - look at the packaging. A golden box containing a golden palette. I am not going to lie, I gasped.
Then I opened the palette and gasped a little more.
Three perfect pans of glimmering powder perfection set side by side reflected in their own full sized mirror...

But enough of the gushing - lets get to the review.

The three shades contained in this palette are; two of my favourites, Dim Light and Radiant Light and the limited edition Incandescent Light.

Dim Light is my most used. It is a natural, peachy toned, super sheer powder that I take lightly all over my face with a big fluffy powder brush. It just gives me a finished look. It doesn’t look cakey or too much, it just makes me look better somehow. ’Tis magic!

Radiant Light is different. And hard to describe. It is the one I turn to when I am going out after a day in the sun. When I have a bit of a tan. Or when I want to look that way.
It isn’t a bronzer, more like a warmer upper. I lightly dust this one all over my face, then go back in to add more on my nose, cheekbones and temples. It gives me a sexy summer look. Gorgeous!

Incandescent Light is for me the most dramatic of the three. I use it as a highlighter - on my cheekbones, the inner corner of my eye and cupid's bow. Its pearly - not glittery - just a gorgeous, cool toned shimmer but very noticeable. This is probably my least favourite of the three, its a gorgeous highlighter but on me its way too shimmery to use it as anything more.

Can you tell I love this palette? I use at least one of the pans most days and for a big night out use all three. Does it live up to the hype? For me absolutely. It just makes my skin look so much better. And that dear readers is priceless.

  • Thank you for this review! I have been eyeing up this palette for a while & the only thing stopping me from purchasing it is that I already own the full size of Dim Light. You've completely sold me on this palette - I can always sell the full size after all! Xx
