Fitness Round Up

Those of you who read my blog regularly know that I have been on a mission to lose weight and increase my fitness levels. I thought it was time to  update you all on how I am getting on.

Diet – I have been following the Slimming World Plan for the last month and have been really enjoying it. The idea seems to be that you can eat as much as you like of healthy foods such as meat, fish, rice, pasta, fruit and vegetables but have to restrict more calorific food and drink like dairy products, bread, sugar and alcohol. This has worked really well for me so far as it lets me eat all of my favourite foods just by tweaking the recipes a little. So far I have shared my recipes for Spaghetti Carbonara and Lasagne here on the blog- but look out for more menu makeovers coming soon.

Fitness – As well as making over my diet, I have been trying to work on my fitness too.  I have never really been one for going to the gymn, I prefer the convenience of exercising alone from home, so running has always been my workout of choice. It has been so long since I last ran regularly though that I have had to start from scratch. My favourite way to start running is to use the NHS Couch-2-5k – a programme that promises to take the least fit of us from the couch to running 5k within just 8 weeks. I am currently on week 5 and by the end of the week will be running for 20 mins without stopping. Hopefully in my next Fitness Roundup I will be able to report that I am regularly running 5k. Fashion – So far I have been running in an old pair of leggings, a baggy teeshirt and a hi-vis jacket, but as my confidence has improved, I have found myself spending many a happy hour, filling and refilling my online basket with a selection of fitness fashiom. My favourite site at the moment is Fabletics who are currently offering designer workout gear from just £15 here. My plan is to treat myself to a whole new outfit when I have lost my first stone.

Weight Loss – I have been following my new fitness plan for a month now and although I have had a few nights when I have allowed myself to eat, drink and be merry, for most of the last four weeks, I have stuck closely to plan. At the beginning of the month I had a whopping 56lbs to lose but I am thrilled to report that I have already lost 8lbs – an average of 2lbs a week which I am really happy about. At this rate I could be at my target weight by the middle of April – here’s hoping!
