Of all the trends for Autumn/Winter 2015, 70s style is the one that has really grabbed my attention. I can’t wait to start wrapping myself in all of the rich fabrics, like velvets and furs, I have my eye on a bag adorned with leather fringing and am optimistic that generous flares may go some way to balancing my extremely generous derriere. But of all the 70s fashions that are currently hitting the high street, my favourite would have to be the floppy hat.
Just look at this beauty I was sent by the Scottish company Powder from South Queensferry near Edinburgh. For me, this hat perfectly encapsulates the spirit of the 70s, but with a distinctly modern feel. There is something about putting on a floppy hat that instantly makes you feel more glamorous no matter what you wear it with. Mine will mostly be worn with denim flares, a polo neck and my grey, dressing-gown style winter coat but I could see this style of hat looking amazing with a shearling jacket too. Top shop has some beauties.
I have to say a bit about the quality of the hat – it really is special. Its crown is structured so it is comfortable to wear and secure, which is important in the UK where winter can be wet and windy- no-one wants to be chasing their hat across a wet pavement. The brim though is softer so that it flops beautifully but without blocking your view. That really is a thing you know, just try on a few cheap versions. And just look at the felt band with it’s applique leaves – is that not the cutest? This detail adds so much character to the piece and sets it apart from mass produced versions. Who wants to be wearing the same hat as every other female on their High Street?
Finally would you just check out the hat box. Isn’t it fabulous?? I really appreciate it when something is beautifully packaged. It just adds so much to the overall experience for me. And what an amazing gift this would be, don’t you think? You wouldn’t even have to wrap it up which is always a result.
