If you could pick only ONE?

As beauty bloggers, the last thing any of us want to do is pick only one of any product. We want all the makeup and build stashes that are worth so much they would make our bank managers weep. Not everyone has our magpie tendencies though and a question I am sure we have all been asked is, ‘Which product would you use if you could pick only ONE? ‘ One of my favourite beauty bloggers, Lily Pebbles wrote a post answering this question which I found really interesting so I thought I would share my own version with you all tonight.

Hair Product I was recently advised by the lovely Andrew from Beauty and the Boy to try the OJON Restorative Hair Treatment Plus and I absolutely love it. I have used it once a week for the last few weeks and can honestly say my over processed hair hasn’t looked so healthy or felt so soft for years. An expensive product but worth the investment.

Foundation Another expensive product which I consider to be worth the investment is the Chanel Lumiere Perfection foundation. A medium coverage base, this product makes my skin look matte, without looking flat. It feels weightless and looks like my skin but so much better. I am in love with this foundation.

Make Up Brushes Like most of us, my brush collection includes many brands from Mac to Bobbi Brown but if I could pick only one, it would be Real Techniques. I love the look of these brushes but more importantly I love their quality, the huge variety in the range and the amazing value. Great work Sam and Nic x

Blush I have had the Nars Orgasm blush for years now but it is still one of those products I reach for whenever I am unsure what shade to choose. It seems to suit every complexion, brightening and flattering even the most sallow and best of all, it lasts all day, so no touch ups needed. Result!

Lipstick I feel quite disloyal for not picking Mac for the lipstick category – after all if you opened my lipstick drawer you would find many dozens of Mac lippies in every shade and formula imaginable. If I were to choose my top 10 lipsticks then Mac would fill most of the slots but if I can pick only one then it has to be the Urban Decay Matte in the shade Stark Naked. For me this is the perfect nude of the season. Creamy peach with more brown than pink, it looks modern, is easy to wear and lasts all the way through to, lunch despite the litres of water I chug.

Eye Shadow I really like doing eye make up, creating complex looks using multiple shades. But sometimes, all I want is a simple look, using a single shade, and when I feel that way, the shade I reach for is Beware from Urban Decay. Like all Urban Decay shadows, it is easy to apply and blend, and the orange tones really bring out the colour of my hazel eyes.

Liner Because I have hooded eyes, winged liner can take over all of my lid space creating a dark smoky look that isn’t always appropriate for day wear. What I like to do instead, is tightline my upper and lower lids with a brown eye pencil – and the single pencil I would choose, is the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On in shade HUSTLE.

Mascara Everyone knows I have short, stubby eyelashes but I make the most of every inch by using my Shu Uemuras to curl them, then adding several coats of the Estee Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara. I used to use waterproof mascaras but found that this one adds more length and volume whilst holding a curl just as well as any waterproof mascara could. It is also a heck of a lot easier to take off at night.

Fragrance Finally perfume – and this is probably the hardest category of all. There are so many gorgeous summer fragrances that it is really difficult to choose a favourite. But if I really could pick only one, then it would have to be Lemon Tart by Jo Malone. What I love about this scent is the way that it combines fresh citrus with a mellow sweetness to create a perfume which evokes images of balmy summer nights and holiday romances. Sigh!!

I would definitely go for “real techniques” as my brushes of choice, love them!! & I know my mascara would be the falsies by maybelline (or maybe the mally beauty ‘instant impact mascara’)

OOOh – two interesting recommendations for mascara – I have never tried either, in fact I have never tried any Mally products x

I don’t even know where I would start with only picking one! Great post x

It was a lot of fun but yes very very difficult.

I have recently started using Estee Lauder’s Extreme mascara too and I really love it – it’s much less prone to smudging than all my other recent acquisitions… (I really loved the look of Benefit Roller Lash but it was terrible for this!) x

I agree – not smudging or flaking but it really improves the look of my lashes.

If I had to pick one blusher it would definitely be NARS Orgasm, it’s the only one I use these days (even if it is still a bit embarrassing asking for it in House of Fraser!) Another perennial favourite is Benefit Hoola bronzer (much less embarrassing to ask for…).
